One of the many
reasons the Cayman Islands is such a popular wedding destination is the wealth
of activities available to keep the wedding party entertained. While the
ceremony and reception are the culmination of a destination wedding, wedding
guests will usually be on island for several days. With beaches, golf courses,
shopping and spas all within easy reach, there need never be a dull moment.
Stingray City
A boat trip out to
Stingray City sandbar is a must for any visitor to the Cayman Islands. Numerous
operators run half day trips out to see the famously friendly stingrays, often
combining the trip with snorkeling stops. Wedding parties may want to consider
a private charter exclusively for their group, which might include a beach
barbecue and freshly caught conch.
Sunday Brunch
A long, leisurely
brunch is the ideal way to wind down wedding festivities. Sunday Brunch has
become something of an institution in Grand Cayman and the choices range from
casual Caribbean buffets, to sophisticated international cuisine. The ultimate
brunch has to be the Taittinger Champagne brunch at the Ritz Carlton where
champagne flows freely alongside a sumptuous selection of Indian, Italian,
Japanese and other delicacies.
Sunset Cruise
Caribbean sunsets are
hard to beat for beauty, romance and ambience and the best way to enjoy them is
from the deck of a boat, with an exotic cocktail in hand. Various options are
available from pirate ships to catamarans and private motor yachts. Let the
crew do the work and all your party need do is sit back, relax and watch out
for the elusive green flash.
Bioluminescent bay by kayak
It would be hard not
to be impressed by the spectacle that takes place on the darkest nights of the
month in sheltered bay near Rum Point. Extremely high concentrations of
particular species of plankton in this bay create incredible bioluminescence
that illuminates the water when disturbed. Access to the bay is by kayak, putting you as
close to the action as possible.
Island Tour
Leave the beach behind
for a day and venture off the beaten track on a safari-style tour. Hop into a
Cayman Safaris vehicle and let the knowledgeable guides show you a different
side of Cayman as you drive you through the more remote districts. Tours make
multiple stops to visit key historic and cultural sites, meet some colourful
local characters and sample some Caymanian gastronomic delights.
Get Fired Up
Why not get your party
to flex their artistic muscles for a few hours? At All Fired Up you can choose
ready-made pieces of pottery and paint them in the colours and designs of your
choice. The pieces will then be fired so that you can take home a beautifully
glazed mug, plate, vase or bowl. If painting is not your thing, you can try
designing mosaics with their colourful miniature tiles.
Submarine tour
For something totally
unique that is accessible to all, a submarine tour is an ideal to get your
party to experience some of the beauty of the underwater landscape that Cayman
is so famous for. No previous experience is required to travel down to 100 feet
and peek over the edge of the drop off. Large panoramic windows allow you to
see the underwater world without ever getting wet.
Cook up a storm
A number of restaurants are now offering cooking
classes where head chefs share the secrets of some of their most popular
recipes with the public. These usually take place in an informal setting,
accompanied by a glass or two of wine, and of course you get to eat the dishes
at the end.
