Making Waves
Cayman’s Music Scene

Cayman’s own Barefoot Man took his show on the road, playing in the Bahamas and Florida in April. He’s back in Grand Cayman for the long stretches of the summer, continuing his eight-year stint at the Reef Resort in East End. Barefoot Man plays there on most Tuesday and Thursday nights. Fans love his laid-back style and his funny songs. He’s a one-of-a-kind. For more information, go to his website barefootman.com

Suite Elite is known as Cayman’s No. 1 rock and pop show band. They play everything from Black Eyed Peas to Bob Dylan to Tina Turner. Stuart Wilson & Love Culture is a group that’s going places. Lead singer and songwriter Stuart Wilson just worked with Grammy-winner Jason Gilbert on a single that promises to be on Billboard charts this summer. Wilson plays mostly reggae songs, but he’s tuned into popular culture and Cayman’s beauty and struggles, which gives his music a timeless quality. The music is always the focus and it’s evident – songs are stories filled with emotion and relevance.

Bona Fide is a band that plays weddings, corporate events, private parties – in short, they play anything.

They have talent on every instrument, but it’s lead singer and songwriter Isadora Ferrao-Powell that has some of the most unique sounds and skills in Cayman. She’s had three songs reach the finals in UK songwriting competition. You can find Bona Fide playing on The Paseo at Camana Bay, Aqua Beach, Kaibo and many other venues on Grand Cayman. Notch & Club Dred has a knack for entertaining every single audience member with every performance. Notch is a veteran staple in the Cayman music scene. But he’s also a rare talent that blends smooth vocal performances with an uncanny songwriting ability. The band plays Wednesdays at Aqua Beach on West Bay Road on Seven Mile Beach. And when a major music festival is in town, they’re bound to be on the ticket.

The Swanky Kitchen Band is something especially unique to Cayman. It is a new band that pays constant homage to old folk traditions and their important Cayman heritage. The instrument that naturally moves to the front of each song is the violin – it gives each tune a twang, a Cayman feel. Swanky is a throwback to a time almost forgotten. Fortunately, we have a band that can entertain us, but also teach us about Cayman life many generations ago.

Hi Tide is an acoustic duo from the Cayman Islands. Shane Allenger and Sean Hennings are cousins who started the band in 1994, and have been entertaining audiences since. They’ve been a successful pairing, sharing the stage with some of the biggest acts in international music. They’ve also played all around the world, with shows in the US, Canada, Europe, South America and all over the Caribbean. For more information on this band, visit their website at hitidemusic.com
