A glimpse into Cayman’s culture
The islands’ rich heritage is waiting to be discovered with a trip to the Cayman Islands National Museum.
Experience the culture and history of Cayman through a series of exhibits, including simulated submarine dives, storytelling mannequins in catboats, rare documents and old coins.

The National Museum can trace its roots to the 1930s when Mr Ira Thompson began collecting Caymanian artifacts as a hobby.

In 1979, the Cayman Islands Government purchased Mr Thompson’s items, which became the nucleus of the National Museum’s collection. Today, the National Museum is home to more than 8000 artifacts, from tiny coins to a 14-foot catboat and natural history specimens.

Established as a place of learning and enjoyment, the National Museum provides residents and visitors with a rich understanding of Caymanian heritage.

Just stepping off the bustling streets of George Town transports you to another world, where displays of local flora and fauna, a natural history collection, as well as the largest comprehensive collection of Caymanian arts and crafts await. The cultural history collection will also stimulate the mind, with tangible evidence of the social development of Cayman.

The National Museum also features great souvenirs, including books by locals and historians that mark the heritage of the Cayman Islands.

Schedule a tour of the National Museum or simply take a few hours to discover what this cultural treasure has to offer.
