The secret garden Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park is one of the islands’ hidden gems. Boasting more than 60 acres of lush vegetation, the Botanic Park is a paradise for nature-enthusiasts and amateurs, alike, with explosions of colour, exotic wildlife and fascinating folklore.
The Botanic Park, which is part cultivated garden, part undeveloped woodland, is divided into eight distinct areas: the Heritage Garden; the Orchid Garden; the Colour Garden; the Woodland Trail; the Palm Walk; the nursery and the Visitor's Centre. Among this diverse landscape wanders Grand Cayman’s rare and spectacular Blue Iguana. Some Blue Iguanas live on the grounds and spend their day sunbathing on the mile-long Woodland Trail or lakeside lawn. Others live in the Blue Iguana captive breeding facility, which runs tours from Monday through Saturday, at 11am.
The way to enjoy the Botanic Park is on foot. Take in the vibrant colours of the Colour Garden before stopping at the Heritage Garden to see Cayman’s native flora species. The Botanic Park’s newest feature, the Orchid Garden, allows a rare glimpse of these rare and fragile flowers in their natural environment. Then, explore the Botanic Park’s collection of palms from around the world.
Part of the trail leads back to the Visitor’s Centre and gift shop, stocked with park-themed items, including Blue Iguana T-shirts and posters.
It’s time to discover the beauty of the Botanic Park.
